2.Zojila Tunnel: The Challenge of Digging Through the Himalayas

The 13.14-km Zojila Tunnel achieved its final breakthrough on June 9, marking a major milestone in one of India’s most challenging infrastructure projects. The tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh while overcoming the extreme geological and climatic conditions of the Himalayas.

- The project also incorporates advanced safety measures, including three deep vertical shafts, the deepest extending 474.3 metres, to facilitate ventilation, emergency evacuation, rescue operations, and smoke extraction in case of accidents.
